People visits my site and enjoy my art, and they ask questions about my t-shirt art and myself. These are the questions that were most commonly asked by visitors to my site. I’ve collected and compile the information here; I encourage you to read this page in its entirety- you may have your questions answered here.
.
Q. How long do you take to complete a t-shirt design?
It depends. I schedules about a week to complete a design. However, this very much depends on design complexity.
.
Q. How do you start a t-shirt design?
I do a complete sketch on a paper. Next, I scan it into my PC and make some necessary amendment there. If I need text in the sketch, I’ll try out several fonts from my collection, choose the one I like and fix that in the design. When a customer approves my sketch, I’ll color it up in Photoshop.
.
Q. What type of software do you use when you paint digitally?
Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator CS2. Sometimes I use some special effect Photoshop plug in like Alien Skin and Kai’s Power Tool, but not too often.
.
Q. What equipment do you use?
I work on a Dell Inspiron 1525.
.
Q. What gives you inspiration?
I am inspired in 2 ways:
Pay attention to ideas around – visit local retail stores (this is what I least do nowadays, don’t you agree getting caught up in a traffic jam is not a good idea), use google, customer feedback.
My own ideas – Through reading, daydreaming, brain storming……just about anything that can give me fresh ideas.
.
Q. What is the most rewarding experience (non monetary) you receive from being a t-shirt artist?
When I am told stories from my customers about how my art has help their t-shirts sell, and they keep coming back to me wanting more designs. This means the most to me.
.
Q. What are some of your favorite uses of your t-shirt artwork?
My art has been creating the buzz in Blackfoot (a US Southern Rock band) tour! Sold out on tour most nights, until they make the shirt (with my art on it) available online to accommodate those that has been shut out.
.
Q. Where are you based?
I’m from Malaysia, a tropical country in South East Asia (north to Singapore). A week ago I was midway through “The World is Flat”, the bestseller by Tom Friedman, his book is all about outsourcing to India and China is not only for programming and toy makers but is poised to transform every industry in America and Europe. I have this though: Tom just missed one point: t-shirt graphic outsource.
.
Q. What is your educational background?
I don’t receive a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree, with t-shirt art as my major…. I had 5 years working experience in t-shirt screen printing shop. I picked up t-shirt design by decision, and improve on my art daily am very much I learned.
.
Q. Is your studio in your home?
Yes, and it’s always a mess, not a showcase, it is the place I work and spend most of my waking hours. Luckily I don’t have many local visitors, as 80% of my customers are from US and the rest from Europe and Middle East. I work remote with most of my customers via email. sometimes phone, but very little.
.
Q. I want to hire you to draw a design for me, what do I do now?
Drop me a line in my contact form, I’ll get back to you in 24-48 hours. We’ll discuss.
